  VERSE CLASSES
 

Please note: except in the writing class - all selections should be published work.
Details of age limits A to H, marking criteria and closing dates are given in the rules

 VS VERSE SPEAKING (SOLO) 
       Award: Gazey Trophy 
       To speak from memory a poem of the entrant's own choice. 
       A – 4 minutes max, B to H - 3 minutes maximum. 
SON SONNET CLASS (SOLO) 
       Award: The Tyerman Trophy 
       To speak from memory a sonnet of the entrant's own choice.
       Entries invited in all age groups (Sonnets take approximately one minute to speak)
 POC POEMS FROM OTHER CULTURES (SOLO)
       Award: Book Token 
       To speak from memory a poem written in English by a minority or foreign poet. 
       (See current GCSE syllabus or BBC Bitesize for possible suggestions.) 
       A - 4 minutes maximum, B to H - 3 minutes maximum. 
 HV HUMOROUS VERSE CLASS (SOLO) 
       Award: The Robert Ovens Trophy 
       To speak from memory a funny poem of the entrant's own choice. 
       A - 4 minutes maximum, B to H - 3 minutes maximum. 
VR VERSE READING (SOLO) 
       To read aloud a prepared piece of published poetry of the entrant's own choice. 
       A – 4 minutes max, B to F - 3 minutes maximum, G & H - 2 minutes maximum. 
LC LARKIN CHALLENGE CLASS (SOLO) 
         Award: Book Token 
         To read aloud a poem (or extract from a poem) by Philip Larkin. 
       A - 4 minutes maximum, B to F - 3 minutes maximum, G & H - 2 minutes maximum.
